This team lacks basketball IQ, and it's so frustrating to watch at times. One night we look good, and the next we look horrendous.
I promise I'm not trying to bash Nych smith here in saying this, but he killed every single bit of momentum tonight, and had no awareness of it. Neither did Kelsey. I really like Nych and his game, but he needs to recognize when he's not on, and get his teammates involved. Kelsey should've rotated him in and out way more often, but he did not.
There was no momentum at all tonight, and this was just selfish, awful basketball. Our 3's weren't falling so what did we do? We shot more 3's! Makes sense right?
We also didn't make any adjustments to slow down Walton, and he lit us up.
As far as offense goes, I'm just not a fan of Kelsey's offense at all. We play way too much 1-on-1 basketball, and look to kick on 3's. There's minimal movement off the ball, no back door cuts, no screens away on the block, nothing. Every now and then you might get a set play, but we rely on 1-on-1 play from our guards to fuel our offense. It's mind boggling at times. When shots don't fall, and Smith and Pickett aren't hitting wild out-of-control runners in the lane, what do we do? Well, we fail like we did tonight. There needs to be a bit more structure to our offense if we want to really be productive. It really bothers me that we don't get hardly any easy dump offs to our bigs down low with this team. Ukaegbu barely scores otherwise. Ferguson only really scores if he's making 3's. Like, I'd be frustrated if I were those guys. They're underutilized IMO.
I'm not even going to list our FG and 3pt percentages because we know it was pitiful.
Side note: The refs really screwed us a few times tonight.
Anyway, on to the next game I guess. It can't possibly get worse right? It's really ironic that we lost to Longwood AFTER we bring their head coach onto our staff.
