I didn't like how this game ended not just because we lost but how we gave away the game at the end. This game also showed me team's with length will give our Eagles trouble this year. I was glad up see Nych Smith go off for us with Pickett in foul trouble most of the game. I wish he took the last shot since he has the hot hand.

Nych Smith played a hell of a game, and made a tough "and 1" play towards the end to give us the lead. That play was then negated by his turnover when he was trapped in the corner on the full court press. He would have been better off holding the ball for 5 seconds than to throw it right into the hands of the defender under the basket. Obviously not all his fault, but that turnover really hurt in the moment.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. This team cannot handle the press. Even Pfeiffer forced turnovers on the press, and they look like middle schoolers.
It also blows my mind how we can take 2-4 minutes on an officials time out (reviewing deflected ball out of bounds) to then draw up seemingly *nothing* to try and get the ball in bounds. No screens being set, or anything. Just praying that our little guards can get open and somehow dribble their way out of a press. That was just bad coaching. It's almost like we don't practice the press, or against it. Whenever a team presses a Kelsey era team, we look like deer in headlights with no idea what to do.
We turned the ball over 20 times. I mean... tough to win games when you do that. We really need to stop turning the ball over, and stop getting violations that are unnecessary. No lazy fouls, no moving screens, and no traveling violations.
Lastly, our defense remains horrendous. These guys are really struggling with help-side defense. I watched on multiple occasions where an ETSU player blew by the on ball defender for a clear path to the basket, while someone (who should have slid over and played help-side defense) was still hugging their man with their back to the ball on the other side of the key. Not having any size kills us every year too.
At this rate, we won't be over .500 in the Big South.

Totally agree on the coaching issues. Why the hell are we throwing the ball inbounds to the short corner to our smallest player to be trapped?!!!!---and that was after they showed what they were going to do!!! Honestly I would have no issue getting the inbounds to Josh Ferguson---he's a great free throw shooter and then he can look over the press/pass to a guard to break it in that situation if he's not fouled.
Thought we had a good bit more talent than ETSU---they had some size that game us some issues but overall did well against it until the last couple of minutes----we were just outcoached and made bone head plays the entire game like lane violations, etc---that really was the difference in winning by 8-10 and losing by 2.
Don't share the sentiment about the Big South--from what I've seen, we will easily be top three, and probably fighting against Radford for top seed.
Can't lose Ferguson to injury though. Agree we need some post depth---but Kelsey just doesn't recruit big guys unless they can run/shoot. He doesn't like the plodding traditional big guy. Helps us offensively but hurts rebounding. Was hoping Raivis would help some but he still isn't seeing the court. Thank god we picked up Anumba who plays fairly big.
