I'm struggling to watch the team this year at times. I'm baffled how we can return so much talent, as well as bring talented guys in, and still lose some of these games.
I'll be honest, I'm not impressed with Prosser. Everyone was excited for the hire, but I was not. He had a mediocre stint at Western, and for some reason we decided we would hire him here because he was a familiar face. Well, that worked out real well when they did it with Randy Peele huh? I'm sure he is a GREAT guy, but so far, I just don't see it from a coaching perspective. The team is undisciplined, lacks tenacity, and there are so many things that need work. I know it's early, but this team really isn't young or new to this. I REALLLY REALLY hope he proves me wrong. I can be overly critical, so I enjoy being wrong in these scenarios.
As for the team, there's obviously tons of talent. Some things I'm not understanding though:
-Why is McMahon getting the playing time that he does? He has struggled a lot, and to me, isn't showing that he can be on the floor as much at this level yet.
-On the other side of that, why is Jamal King not seeing the floor at all? He got minutes under Kelsey, and he's a good sized guy. I don't see why he shouldn't be getting more minutes now.
-I honestly believe that Russ should be getting more playing time than Buggs. Can't convince me otherwise. Buggs is a non-existent threat on offense (Barring his one game the other night, and I know he's more of a true point guard), but he doesn't make up for it enough in other areas of the game IMO. I know Russ can be a defensive liability, but he can generally score some, and get a couple steals a game. He's more balanced, and earned a starting spot at this point.
-Corbin is having a bad shooting slump, but I can't help but think it also has something to do with how Prosser is using him in the offense.
-Pat Good is shooting great so far this year, and honestly it has saved us a couple times. That said, a bit more trigger discipline would be good for him
-Hightower can shoot the ball well when he's composed and making good decisions. There's too many times though where he's undisciplined with the basketball. I also think less dribbling out side of 10 feet from the basket = better outcomes for him.
-DJ has been doing well. If he keeps his composure, and stays out of foul trouble, he's always our biggest threat to any team.
Hopefully no one misinterprets my critiques, but this is just what I've observed so far. Obviously a great group of guys, and I hope they can get things rolling as the season progresses.
Sidenote: Is Lane still injured? Is Whiteside going to play this season?
