Now the Falden signing is something I'm excited about.

Seems to be a really good class and one that will set us up for long term success with so many (what seems to be) talented freshmen. I like that we aren't getting a bunch of one and doners (or even two). That being said, one of those frosh guards is going to have a play a big role next year if we are to repeat. I don't see the Bromans or Pickett as guys who can create their own at the end of the shot clock. Obviously, Xavier will be leaned on more in those situations, but I think one of the freshmen may have to as well.
Will be interesting to see where the last spot goes to. Would think a transfer big or transfer big wing. Going to be thin in the post when Xavier gets in foul trouble. Hopefully Ferguson will be a force after the summer (and he looked good for a frosh big), but can the big Aussie really help right away? The Latvian kid looks really thin, would assume he's more a shooter/slasher.

Yeah, I'd have to think that the last spot would get filled by a big (or at least someone comfortable playing in the post)...and with 5 freshmen on next year's roster (Scerbinskis, Pupavac, Schumacher, Falden, & Zunic), I wouldn't be surprised if they look for another JUCO or something like that to fill that need.
I definitely think at least one of the freshman guards will find a big role on next season's team (Zunic would probably my best bet, but Falden wouldn't surprise me either...). I also think that Bjorn will be a bit more aggressive next year without Keon around...can he handle that added load? Guess we'll see. And I'll be curious to see if Pickett can take a step up from 'shot of energy' bench contributor to a more consistent part of the rotation. The ability is there, but until he becomes more consistent and limits the mistakes, I doubt Kelsey will trust him with big minutes.

At 4:30pm today, Florida Southwestern (a new JUCO program) will have a signing ceremony...looks like it is for PG Nych Smith, who played there this past season after spending his freshman season at Fordham. And from what I can tell, he'll be signing with WU. He's a 5'10" PG that averaged 15.1 PPG and 5.8 APG this past season (http://fswbucs.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/bios/smith_nych_qzif). At Fordham, he averaged 3 ppg and played about 10 minutes/game for the first half of the season, and then got completely cut out of the rotation (in the last 16 games of the season, he only played more than 3 minutes in one of those contests).
If he does end up signing with WU, and assuming nobody else is leaving, that will lock up all of the scholarship spots for next season. Seems to be a pretty guard-heavy roster...but I'll dig deeper into it once this signing is complete.

So if nothing else changes, here's somewhat of a depth chart for the guys on scholarship (given that I haven't seen 8 of these guys play, it is tough to really know how it will play out, so I'll put the returnees up as the starters for now)...also, most of these guys will probably play 2-3 different positions at some point, so I'm just plugging them in one spot here to make it simpler:
PG - Bjorn Broman (jr), Nych Smith (jr), Keondre Schumacher (fr) SG - Adam Pickett (jr), Charles Falden (fr), Kyle Zunic (fr) SF - Anders Broman (sr), Austin Awad (jr) PF - Xavier Cooks (sr), Jermaine Ukaegbu (jr), Raivis Scerbinskis (fr) C - Josh Ferguson (so), Tom Pupavac (fr)
Lots of new names...will be interesting to see who emerges out of the group of newcomers to play a big role this upcoming season. Nych Smith and Jermaine Ukaegbu have D1 experience already, so I think they are the most likely candidates to be able to step in right away and contribute.

WU posted a 2017-18 roster online today...nothing new that we hadn't already gone over already in this thread: www.winthropeagles.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball&Only 5 returning scholarship players that saw the court for WU last year (Cooks, Broman, Broman, Pickett, & Ferguson). They're joined by Scerbinskis (who redshirted last year) and 7 new scholarship players to the program (Pupavac, Schumacher, Zunic, Awad, Ukaegbu, Falden, & Smith)...The walk-ons (Poole, Hill, & Blake) return for their senior seasons, and are joined by Matt Erps, who has spent the last three years as a manager with the program. Kelsey will need to replenish the walk-on/scout-team crew completely next season.

Few notes to pass on.
Pupavac has put on at least 25 lbs. He's closer to 245 lbs right now, that's gonna be key with his size and length. He could end up being a really nice player.
Nych Smith was a huge get. Not sure how he was under the radar but he's a dynamic guard.
I'm hearing Cooks is closer to 220 lbs right now which is good news. He played most of last year around 205.
Zunic has a chance to be special. I probably shouldn't say this but he could end up being the best player to play at Winthrop if he develops like he should. He's the highest rated recruit to ever come here. No chance he redshirts unless something is wrong. I would think they bring him along slowly since Nych has experience
Awad is a load. He's closer to 225 and plays great defense.
Expect Ferguson to have a huge year. He's also added about 15 lbs.

Good info...I definitely think Nych Smith is the most likely newcomer to contribute from Day 1...he has D1 experience and had a great season last year at the JUCO level. I think the team should be able to find ways to score, I'm just curious to see how quickly they are able to mesh defensively and pick up the scheme with all the new guys on the roster.
