Any idea if Burns is out of Kelsey's doghouse? I sure hope so. We can win without him but not so easily.
I hope we're ready to go tonight, I'm sure GW will be. National TV, the way the game in Rock Hill ended, oh yeah, they'll be hyped up.
Since Radford's 2nd loss was to UNCA, we could drop this one, win out, and still most likely be the #1 seed in the conference tournament. I don't like that scenario, but I bring it up since this is supposed to be a discussion board. Go Eagles!

Actually---the tiebreaker in that scenario would have RU as the 1 seed.....since it goes down the standings and currently GW is higher than UNCA, thus RU would get the 1 seed. And GW would be two games ahead of UNCA if they win tonight, so doubtful UNCA could catch them.
Lots of season left regardless, but the game tonight (and Saturday) and the two toughest remaining. If we can get these we should be in good shape.

I don't dispute what you're saying, but it's counter-intuitive that a Winthrop loss to GW which is ranked higher than UNCA, would put Radford in front of Winthrop.

From bigsouthsports.com :
"Seeding for the basketball championships will be determined by the regular season conference standings.
In case of a tie, the following formula will be used:
1. When two teams are tied in the standings, regular season head-to-head results are used as the tiebreaker.
2. If the tied teams played each other twice in the regular season and split their games, then each team’s record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings (or in case of a tie for first place, the next highest position in the regular season standings) and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
(a) When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams. (b) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against a team or group is unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4). If the winning percentage of the tied teams is equal against a team, or a group of tied teams, continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage."
Having said all this, win out and we'll be buying tournament tickets in Rock Hill.

Yeah, they reward playing well against the better teams in the league. So sweeping Gardner Webb is rewarded more than sweeping Asheville.

Why does Kelsey tolerate Vaudrin driving to the paint, ALWAY’S picking up his dribble, gets stuck in traffic and turns the ball over. He needs to keep his dribble alive/ or develop a 8-10’ jump shot. He’s hard to watch. If he doesn’t turn it over, he shot puts a ball up with his off hand.

Wow, that sure was like a turd in the punchbowl. Team is playing poorly right now. Need to get out of a rut. Playing too fast...there is a difference between trying to push tempo and rushing shots and playing out of control. We are trying to push it so much that we are throwing careless passes turning it over way too much, rushing shots...heck Ferguson barely catches the ball before chucking it up there now. I’d much rather us play a little slower if it meant taking care of the ball and not rushing shots. I understand we have everyone beat on depth and pushing a fast paced game but you still have to play in control. Also, defense has been less than stellar as well with giving teams way too many easy drives to the hoop. Need to play Russ less if he’s going to give up 14 layups a game. We will be fine but need to get some composure back.

Aside from Vaudrin wasting about 20 possessions a game (turnovers, or horrible shot selection, forcing things), this was a classic coach Kelsey coaching blunder. 6 turnovers and 8 points isn't good enough to be on the floor.
- Team was getting torched by GW's guard play, and instead of being able to change defensive strategy (play a 3-2 zone or 1-3-1), Kelsey has to be stubborn and continue his man-to-man defense that isn't working, because pride right?
-I don't have to explain the offensive issues, because anyone with eyes can see that we're disorganized, rushing/forcing shots, and have no rhythm. We have no one who can drive to the rim effectively. It's either jack up a 3 ball, or feed it to DJ. There's nothing in between.
This team was better in November and December than they are now, and have continued on a downward spiral.
The way the team was playing, why is it that Kelsey doesn't call a timeout to organize something at the end of the game? We don't really have a player who can create their shot from the outside in. We have DJ on the inside, but that's it. We also muffed the end of the half when we should have gotten a shot off there as well.
Just continued embarrassing performances. Kind of hurt our season right there. We can still go to the tournament of course, but we just put an automatic NIT bid in jeopardy now.

The main issue right now is turnovers and Vaudrin definitely didn't have a good game last night, but remember, he rates as the 4th best player in the conference via Kenpom. There's no way he should be off the floor. Even when he's not efficient scoring, he rebounds, sets others up, gets steals---he's a great player overall. This is the best team in the conference, but it's tough to win them all. 3 games in 5 days and a weird tech fest with no DJ against Radford and G-W is playing well at the moment and was on the road. I think we will win out.
