Since it's now officially time to focus on Duke - I just wanted to get a thread going for this discussion.
My hope is that we can hang around long enough in this game to garner some respect.
On a side note: Is anyone in the Charlotte area planning on watching this anywhere? Any watch events in Charlotte or Rock Hill? (probably isn't but just checking)

Doh! SF Austin beat Duke in ot last night. You can look at this a couple of ways but I don't see Duke being very hospitable with another mid-major this week.

I would agree. Definitely a couple ways to look at this: -Perhaps Duke isn't focused, not playing their best basketball right now, and looking past the small teams. Winthrop should go into this game with nothing to lose, and realize that teams like Duke can be beaten. -The alternative is that Duke slipped up once, and great teams barely slip up once, let alone twice. They will likely be laser focused come Friday, and not looking past Winthrop in the slightest... especially considering Winthrop has a top 25 win under their belt already. Our team has seen a lot of highs and lows this season. At this point, I honestly have no idea what to expect. I do know that we will come out and play extremely hard on the defensive end of the floor, but we really need shots to fall if we're going to compete. We also need to take care of the ball, and show discipline. Cameron Indoor is not an environment you want to get sloppy in, or it will consume you. Anyway, still super hype to watch the guys compete at the highest level. These games don't come often, and Duke will still be #1 since the rankings won't update until Monday

I wish Duke didn't lose this week so we could've been the team to catch them slipping.

Date/Time: Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 pm Locations: Durham, NC - Cameron Indoor Stadium Radio: 94.3 FM/104.1 THE BRIDGE TV/Video: ACCN Winthrop makes its first ever trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium as it takes on top-ranked Duke Friday evening in non-conference men's basketball action. The Blue Devils dropped an 85-83 decision on a buzzer-beater in overtime Tuesday night against Stephen F. Austin, a loss that snapped Duke's 150-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents. Duke and Winthrop have met just once previously, that was a 2002 NCAA Tournament First Round game in Greenville, S.C. -- an 84-37 Blue Devil victory behind 19 points each from Carlos Boozer and Jason Williams. In games against members of the Big South Conference, Duke is 16-0 all-time.

Coulda', shoulda', woulda', we'll never know. A couple of free throws and a couple of 3's, we would have been in the game until the very end. Who knows, at that point Duke may have choked with the loss to SFA fresh in their minds. Oh well, there are positives. The athletic department certainly received a decent check. The Eagles were on national TV, and I thought that the announcers were complementary of the team, individual players, and coach Kelsey. Hopefully the team learned and grew from the experience, but I hate that Jones Jr was hurt.
We all know that the Big South will only put one team in the ncaa tournament and everything is right there in front of our guys. Just need to win the league to get top seed and see what happens in the BS tournament. For now, however, time for me to dig out one of my old "Crush Coastal" t-shirts.
