Should be a fun one. Davidson has an ok program, probably a game we should win at home, but lose on the road. If we can pull out will be a good win.
I wonder if they are still beating geese up there these days.....I guess you can't teach class

Davidson has really fallen off since they lucked into Curry a long time ago. Not much support around that program anymore.

Davidson has really fallen off since they lucked into Curry a long time ago. Not much support around that program anymore. I wish Winthrop could have Davidson's level of support...yeah, it isn't where it was when Steph was there, but it isn't bad (around 4200/game the last three seasons). And they haven't fallen off competitively either. Moved to the A-10 and have made it to 2 NCAAs (getting a 10 and a 12 seed in those trips) in their first 4 seasons of being in the league, and are one of the favorites to win the league this season. They haven't made another Elite 8 run, but I wouldn't say they have really fallen off either...have had a few dips here and there in the 10 years since Curry left, but this will likely be the 6th time in the last 8 seasons where they finish in the top 100 of KenPom.

Perception is reality I guess. I've been to a couple of their games and the atmosphere is much like WU now...no real fan involvement....mostly a crowd of older people sitting on their hands. They just aren't a tournament mainstay like they once were and haven't won anything even when they get there since (much like us), that move to the A-10 really seemed to hurt them.

This team is awful. I've said it once, and I'll say it again. I'll be surprised if we do better than .500 in conference play.
We have 2 wins against Division 1 opponents - SIUE, and Tennessee Tech (who we had to come-from-behind and beat). That's pitiful.
The thing that is astounding, is how this team continues to turn the ball over and do so many STUPID things, yet Kelsey looks like he's done nothing to rectify the problems.
Pickett has been nothing but a let down this entire season. Constant turnovers, struggling to score, struggling to do anything really.
Anumba is a freshman so I'll cut him so slack, but he should NOT have the green light to shoot the 3 anymore. His percentage is AWFUL. At least he had 7 assists.
Nych Smith scored points tonight, but did some mindless things that really hurt us as well. 4 turnovers just forcing things and being out of control, plus the technical foul.
Honestly, one of the biggest differentiating factors in this game (outside of the overwhelming stupidity we displayed) was Brajkovic. We have no one who can body op with him. Again, we will NEVER compete with teams that have size when we continue to recruit undersized players. We would have been better off playing Pupavac against him IMO.

Below .500 in the Big South?? Besides Radford, who else in the league has shown you anything to make you think that they would finish ahead of WU? That isn't to say that the Eagles don't need to show more themselves, but all of the losses have been to teams that are better than anyone in the league (except for ETSU, who may be a step below Radford, but nobody else)...the D1 wins are against pretty bad teams, but we're by double-digits on the road. Hard to really get a gauge on how WU will do against a majority of the league since we haven't really seen the Eagles play that type of team yet.
The defense does really struggle to stop bigger teams...but who in the league will be able to exploit that? The sloppiness does need to improve...but the team can shoot/score, so I think most of the league will have a really hard time slowing WU down. Radford is a good defensive squad, but who else? Longwood has been a bit surprising on the defensive end, but their offense is awful.
Tonight wasn't a great showing by any means, but Florida State is the only team left on the schedule with an offense anywhere close to as good as Davidson's.

A game we should have won.....torched them in the first half and should have been up, but how many times did they go to the line? A bogus flagrant foul, ticky tack calls in the lane....that was rough.
Second half we just committed too many mistakes. This team still is committing way too many unforced turnovers and making stupid mistakes like lane violations to win consistently. The talent is there, the discipline so far is not.

This was one of those games in the 2nd half were we couldn't buy a bucket. For those who think this team is awful you need to realize we are not in conf play yet and these games are used to get us ready for conf play. We our turning the ball over way to much but I've enjoyed watching our Eagles play so far this year. Also being a Debby downer doesn't do anything but bring negativity and bad karma to our program.

Tonight wasn't a great showing by any means, but Florida State is the only team left on the schedule with an offense anywhere close to as good as Davidson's. I should re-phrase my statement in saying "I wouldn't be surprised if we were around .500 this year". I don't feel like we're good enough to to easily beat anyone in the conference, except maybe Asheville and USC Upstate. ETSU and Davidson are right next to each other in the NET rankings, and I know all of our losses are to good teams. The thing is, we're not even competing with them (except ETSU). Against Vanderbilt we lasted a little while, but we could never put pressure on them. Kentucky's final result looked better on the scoreboard than what it actually was the entire game, Davidson was only good for a half, and the only game we competed in was ETSU (which we blew at the end). And sure, we got double-digit wins on the road, but those teams are awful. Flat out awful. We had to shoot very well at SIUE, and still somehow gave up 82 points to a team who is 1-5. No other team has gotten close to giving up 82 points to SIUE (next best was 70 vs Valpo). Then, we had to come-from-behind to beat a horrendous Tennessee Tech team, who is now 1-7. I'll stand behind the fact that our defense has been pretty bad so far. Outside of that, I mean, I've never seen a Winthrop team (or many college teams) that are so careless with the basketball. We commit so many unforced turnovers and traveling violations it's unbelievable. We need to figure that issue out, and quickly. It doesn't matter who you're playing if the majority of your turnovers are unforced, or if you're doing stupid things like getting technicals and flagrant fouls (although I'm not sure I agree with the officials on either call). As always, I'm a huge Winthrop basketball fan, and probably their toughest critic. I overreact a lot, so take things I say with a grain of salt. If there's anyone here who wants to see this team succeed it's me... and I would LOVE to eat my words. Right now though, I'm just not convinced.

I just mentioned this, but take everything I say with a grain of salt. I'm an overly tough critic, and would LOVE to eat my words. Besides, I'm tough on the team every year. I want to see them succeed. I'll try to do better on being a debby downer this season, but boy is it tough. Also, we can't continue to use the "we are not in conference play yet and these games are used to get us ready for conf play" excuse all the time. I get that, but our conference isn't very good. That's like saying it's ok to get blasted out of conf because "hey we only play in the Big South". Our expectations should exceed the Big South all the time.
